...Day after tomorrow, I'm aboard an FFG for my first-class cruise. I've been checking things around here, lurking in the background. Just thought I
would share it with you folks on here, who have been and continue to be an inspiration to become a naval officer.

Which boat? ...Er... I mean, ship... Or at least, which area of the world's oceans? My brother was on the Doyle a few years ago and I heard all sorts
of interesting stories about drug runners and such.

still "Cans" (as close as you are going to get to the REAL "dungaree navy").
Enjoy yourself and don't take anything to seriously; especially yourself. They won't put you anywhere you can really do any real damage! Listen to the Chiefs and you might just learn something important. I sure envy you Mustang and that is no lie. |

And he's back!
Back safely from the Med, from FFG-42, USS Klakring. What a ship. Great crew, CO is OUTSTANDING (he was a mustang, as it turns out...irony...former Gunner's Mate, only two of the wardroom were from the academy, and at least four were mustangs). Stories to tell, a real eye-opener into the world of naval affairs. Lots of discussion, learning, and experience... Oh, and I had the conn for the first time. Total conning time was about 28 hours, during five 6-hour watch periods on the bridge. Also spent time in CIC and CCS. The crew was incredible to watch in action. |

Yay!
So, you had the conn in 1915, and now in 2009. Assuming "your career" ends in, say, 1934, that will have been 75 years between. That may well be some sort of record, eh? |

Hmmm...wonder what the crew would have thought if they'd known they were sailing with one of the Baron's legendary BC commanders, bane of the Grand
Fleet, interceptor of torpedoes off the U.S. coast.
Yeah...75 years is a pretty substantial tech gap (not to mention time gap) to bridge...lots of time in R&D, I'd guess...Record? Yeah. |
