June 4 1946 Captain log , Kapitän zur See Conrad Becker Today I have bin given the command of the Königsberg-Klasse light cruiser SMS Köln after here previous captain retired from service with the Kaiserliche Marine. Before I was even truly settled down I receive my first orders from Marineoberkommando Nordsee to begin preparations for a 12 day north sea patrol with two destroyers under my command. I have much confidence in my new crew and ship after only spending the first day aboard as here new captain. June 14 1946 Preparations for the first patrol with the Köln under my command are complete , I plan to leave Wilhelmshaven and to begin my 12 day patrol with the destroyers SMS Z6 Theodor Riedel and SMS Z20 Karl Galster who will rendezvous with Köln several miles out of German waters on 15 of June. Posts: 158 ( 2-May-2008 02:23:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Captain log , Kapitän zur See Conrad Becker June 15 1946 After leaving Wilhelmshaven behind one of our mine hunters of the Minensuchboot 1943 type who escorted us safely true the mine fields outside the harbor whey met up with SMS Z6 Theodor Riedel and SMS Z20 Karl Galster to begin our 12 day patrol. June 17 1946 The crew is working well and despite the bad wheatear in the north sea our patrol who is now in the second day is of to a good beginning as the crew can finally show me how the work under real non combat pressure. June 19 1946 Have received orders to link up whit the aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin who escort the light cruiser SMS Emden has received flood damaged , the Köln is expected to meet the Graf near the Shetland island tomorrow where whey will join here and here escorts in hunting any soviet ship that might pup up which I feel highly unlikely that will happen but orders are orders.
