There must be something worth defending in there. Consider how casualty intollerant the Medhi Army are. Consider how easily they collapsed in Basra against an Iraqi Army that was not always terribly well organised not to put too fine a point on it. Only in Sadr City is there still fighting. The Medhi are taking a beating. I think it is fair to say that dozens are being killed or injured every day. Perhaps Iran was stockpiling missiles in readiness for a pre-US election assault.
Will the WoT have been essentially won by June or July? This is a real possibility. As I see it Al Qaeda are pretty well finished, even in the north around Mosul. The Medhi Army won't last much longer in Sadr City. Soon Only remnants of both will survive in Iraq. In Afghanistan the Taliban are also on the ropes. There is fighting in only 5 of the 34 provinces, the opium harvest is down 80%, a new NATO offensive is underway.
