Now I see where the stories about American beer started.
Decades ago, I believe that it was the New South Wales Pure Foods Act that required beer contain not less than 4.5% alcohol by volume. That was to protect beer drinkers from watered beer. |

Cheers!
Although AFAIK, the USA now has the strictest alcohol laws of any non-Muslim country (drinking age of 21, etc). I personally think 18 is more sensible, if not 16 for some things. On the other hand, here in the UK we don't let people drive at 14-15 like they do in some states! |

Personally, if you are old enough to fight for your country, you should be allowed to have a drink now and then of booze.

Although should you be allowed to do one while doing the other? The USN say no, the RN say yes...

The reason for the drinking age thing stems from the fact that certain companies aggressively marketed beer and promoted binge drinking and other abuses of alcohol. There was a series of well publicized deaths by alcohol posioning, and a flood of drunk driving deaths.
Nicotine: America's number one mind altering chemical.

Bar tours should be encouraged. If you die from alcohol poisoning, then you were too dumb to know when to stop. Hence you needed to be removed before you
contaminated the gene pool.

We're more worried about them removing someone else from the gene pool

From the stand point of the public schools, letting 18 year olds drink means that if you have an open campus, your students can lunch at the local bar and come
back to school with a few under their belt. Not a good idea!

Surely that's a problem for the schools. Saying that it's a reason to ban alcohol is like saying that if we let 18-year-old high school students drive,
they'll do donuts in the school parking lot, and therefore the driving age should be 21.
