Posts: 70 (28-Feb-2008 22:54:14) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Did any carrier's airgroup comprise both Hornets and Super Hornets, (replacing F14's , intruders etc_- but the Helicopters were still Sikorsky S-61's ? Or by the time Carriers had gone all F-18's was the Sikorsky S-61's replaced by SH-60 Seahawk's ? Any idea when the Sikorsky S-61's get replaced by SH-60 Seahawk's ? The reason I'm asking is that I'm modelling an airgroup, I've modelled all the Hornets and super Hornets, as well as 4 Prowlers, 4 hawkeyes & a Greyhound CoD, but would the helos be Sikorsky S-61's or SH-60 Seahawk's ? Also anybody any idea when the deck tractors and tugs and ancillary moveable equipment change from white/yellow to sea grey ? The RN seems to have changed the deck tractors and trolleys from Yellow to Grey after the falklands, but I'm unsure of USN practice. Is there still one large mobile deck tractor on each carrier ? Sorry but I can't find a definitive answer in my books Thanks

The (now disestablished) reserve squadron HS-75 completed its transition in 2000. The deck tractor/trolleys are white on U.S. carriers.

The correct US military designation for the type is H-3 (SH-3, UH-3, etc.).

Posts: 210 (29-Feb-2008 08:53:52) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Lets see, both Midway and Coral Sea carried all F-18 fighter groups, for a time, during which SH-3H were carried, but I think they also carried A-6s at the same time. In fact I believe that all SH-3s were retired before the Intruders were remove from the carriers, and of course the EA-6B still serving.

However the deck tractor and trolleys colours are a little more problematic. I've re looked at my books and I've got images of CVN 71 with white tractors & a bright yellow Jumbo Crane, I've seen what also appears to be sea grey trolleys/tractors on another carrier. To add to the confusion, I've got a picture of Tarawa with yellow crane, trolleys and tractors ( Thats the LPH). is there a definitive colour ? Did it change over time ? or is it whats available for a deployment, goes, regardless of its colour. Thanks Ashley
