Registered Member Posts: 56 ( 6-Feb-2008 16:18:32) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Who would the RNC rather face in a head to head battle for the Presidency, Obama or Hillary? Assuming McCain is the nominee, which seems the logical opponent to run against? And does he win? The more I throw this around in my head, I believe Hillary and McCain are similar, with the exception of McCains support of the Military and the Troops, I see McCain beating her, even with most women in America voting for her, and most blacks. McCain has alot of voting baggage. Obama is more difficult-he gets most if not a over-whelming majority of the blacks, most women, and young voters. People who are very un-informed or just casual voters, who don't really look at issues and policys; tend to just vote with he or she they have things in common with, i.e. Hill getting all the women. A McCain vs. Obama looks like a old crotchety mean guy against the young, handsome, black, eloquent speaking new guy. That could spell danger for the RNC in November. Thoughts? GUNNER

I voted against her in the primary and would love to vote against her again. The race for thr DNC nomination is very tight. I would not be in Obama's shoes for love or money. No doubt in my militray mind the clinton machine will make that poor bastard wish he were Vince Foster before they are done with him. Too bad. For a dem and a lefty he seems like a pretty decent man.

IF McCain gets the nod I expect this will be the "October Surpise" (The refernce is in regards to a planned media hit piece just before an election designed to sway undecided voters and that is timed to allow no clear response from the target...the fraudulent memo's that Dan Rather used for example). About 2 weeks before the election the NYT will do a detailed cover story about the Keeting 5 scandal. Since McCain is the only current Senator (and the only Republican) his actions will be especially scrutinized. McCains voting record, lobbiest contacts, ammendments to bills, and public statements will be scrutinized for any glimmer of corruption or impropriety (real or imagined) will be blown out of proportion. McCains character and honesty will be brought to question. Side stories about his failed first marriage will lead to implied questions about his integrity (and further demoralize the conservative base). I would also expect "unrelated" stories about the psychological effects of being tortured and how that can lead to emotional and mental instability (another waterboarding fracas), but then careful mention of McCain as someone who was tortured will be inserted...the implication being McCains experience in vietnam may have left him mentally unstable (and you wouldn't want a deranged POTUS, would you?). To immunize against the Vietnam War Hero shield the NYT will compare McCain to Cunningham. They will contend that if a true War hero like Duke Cunningham can succome to corruption, McCain could also. The DUers/Kos/Huffposters will play word games, the favorite being "McCunningham". The NYT will establish a subconcious link between McCain and Cunningham. The effect will be to disuade the undecideds, but also to remind the Conservative base that McCain is 'not one of them'...hoping they sit the election out. Naturally Hillary's past corruptions will NEVER be brought up, except by the Vast Right Wing Smear Media (who are just trying to keep women in bondage and not allow them their historical opportunity). The danger on the DNC side is the convention. If niether Hilary nor Obama has the delegates when the convention starts (even with Edwards payoff and the Michigan/Florida delegates that Hilllary will get the DNC to allow) then it will be decided by the 800+ super delegates. You have to expect most of these are closet Clinton supporters and they will throw in with her. This will tear apart the new base that Obama has created. The young will be disillusioned about the appearance of corruption from the old guard while the Black voters that Obama has energized will see it as a betrayal. The White establishment keeping the Blackman down. This will cost Hillary about 15 million votes as these people stay home on election day (they certainly aren't ready to vote for a Repub yet, but they won't side with Hillary either). As for the vaunted Clinton/Obama/Clinton ticket. A few months ago it would have been possible. However, with the inroads Obama has made he is now an enemy of Hillary. The Clintons are just too spiteful of anyone who dares challenge them that they would never give Obama the chance. Aside that hillary would never accept the number 2 spot, Obama is smarter than that. He is an excellent orator and will generate further excitement among the youth and minority groups. The old guard will vote for him out of pragmatism if nothing else. The last thing Obama needs to do is waste time having to deflect critism away from his running mates past indiscretions and behavior over Her own issues of corruption.

The other issue he raised was that the Republican machine would dig dirt. There might be a lot wrong with Hillary Clinton but it is already out there and has been used before. Obama will have things that people will not know about and the Republican Party will make sure that the electors do find out about it. That does sound familiar to me. there was a Democrat candidate for president an election back who I thought would do well against Mr Bush what with him being a decorated Vietnam vet. He sounded like the perfect counter to the president ho had taken the US to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. He turned out to be very unsuccessful. The election before that involved Mr Gore. Gore should have won and won well. In the end he lost a close election and he lost it in the campaign. Whether it was the pressure of the campaign or his inability to keep on track when campaigning, the Republican campaign machine beat him. Presumably the Republicans want to have their candidate in the White House. Hopefully it is not like Calvin Coolidge getting out because he saw the big economic disaster coming and the Republicans want to lose. Obama has never been through a campaign like the Republicans can run. There will be dirt put about. There will be scrutiny of barrack Obama like there has never been before. He will be under pressure the like of which he has never had to endure before. The campaign for the top job will be different to the primaries. It will be harder and messier. There is no doubt that the Clintons will campaign well. Certainly they will do a better job than the last two Democrat candidates for the presidency. Obama is going to have to start selling hard policy and he is going to have to wear the fact that he will have some mud stick to him. If the Republicans have the same or better campaign machine as defeated the Democrats twice before. they will have a plan on how to beat Barrack Obama and it will be a good one.

They are past masters and they know how to cheat in elections, better than any one else. Remember their slogan, "Vote early and often!" But, the republicans are learning so look for the mud to be thick and sticky! As to the last election, John Kerry swiftboated himself. The clips of him looking like a hippy in his field jacket, testifying before congress (lying) came back to haunt him more than anything else. So far this election cycle has been fun and interesting in both parties. Predictions are shattered and no one knows what the next phase will bring, for sure! I'll go out on a limb and make my predictions. Obama will beat Hillary and win the nomination, unless a shady deal will be worked out with the super delegates and its effect will ruin her in the general election. McCain and Obama will duke it out in the general election and it will be a fine hair at the end. I would like to see it go to the House! I hope all of you know how the House votes, each congressional delegation will cast one vote for a candidate. Heh, Heh, Montana has one congressman, his vote is just as big as California's!
