Yes, that is correct. BOBC 59 knows.
Even though the 1.1" guns were planned to be put on the SoDak class (IIRC both South Dakota and Indiana had them mounted, but Massachusetts and Alabama never did get them), the last two BBs in the class got the improved AAW suit. |

Its almost 65 yrs to day that Play ball was relayed to "Mamie" to open fire 11/8/1942 Casa Blanca No Africa to open the 2nd front it was the navys
newest fast battleship armed with the new super heavy 16" shells in at that time the largest task force ever assembled many later went on to dwarf that
one tho also in the task force was embarking MAJ Gen George S Patton Jr it was also her baptizim of combat of which over the years she endured many more

Some website claims she had 6x 40mm quads and just 12 x20mms in 5/42 (but more could have been added by november) But studying photos I dont see how it could
be 12 door knockers.
3- on the#2 turret 2-boat deck forward 2-#3 turret 4-weather deck forward of bridge at least 2 on the weather deck aft thats 13 already and you can make out a pair on the flybridge and there are probably more on the boat deck and more aft. http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/015938.jpg |

I would like to point out that the USS Massachusetts, BB59, was one of only two USN BBs to ever mount the quad 20mm AAW guns. The
other BB to get this experimential mount was the USS Washington, BB56.
