I would reason that the designation would be:

AN/UIM-173?

U= Submarine Launched
I= Air Intercept
M= Missile

AN= Army Navy system

A= Air launched -- ie AIM-9 Sidewinder
B= Multiple launched -- BGM-71 TOW
C= Coffin launched -- CIM-10 Bomarc
F= Man Portible -- FIM-92 Stinger
G= Runway Launched -- (takes off like an airplane)
L= Silo Launched -- LGM-118 Peacemaker (Such a PC name I recomend the name: Guess Who's Comming to Diner Missile)
M= Ground launched Mobile -- MIM-104 Patriot
R= Surface Ship Launched -- RIM-66C Standard Missile 2 (SM-2MR)
S= Space Launched -- (I could tell you but, you know)

Workable ideas:
1. A rocket launches in the air goes up to either 100, 300, or 1000 feet and disperses bomblets that fall. The bomblets are fused with contact or VT fuses. The bomblet explodes near or on the helecoptor, bomblets with VT fuses explode if the chopper blade comes close breaking it.

2. A guided missile that has an autopilot to take it to an area with a higher probibility of the helecoptor or aircraft and explodes broadcasting high velocity tungusten sharp spike fragments or ball bearings.

3. Rocket pod fires a encapsulated air intercept missile a few miles away releases the missile which turns and flies back the direction from which it was launched from with its active homing or IR turned on.
