Anyway Stackley is incorrect: many foreign designs are built to VERY high standards. The Nansens for example have:
- 4 damage control zones with their own independent electricity generation, fire mains and ventillation
- Flooding resistance of 15% of waterline length
- Longitudinally strengthened girders and transversal bulkheads for shock and fire resistance
- Armored vital spaces
- Acoustic quietening and IR reduction measures to reduce susceptibility
The same is true of other designs from DCNS, Fincantieri etc. The USN needs to stop coming up with weak excuses not to buy a foreign design.

Also in most cases to have trip wire forces stand it own is not realistic. However we should have a consistent policy of retalliation. Not shooting back in the Yemen case was a bad precedent.

I'd retain the single screw for economy and strictly resist the Navy's desire to load this econo-frigate u with expensive goodies. If the navy won't support this plan then congress should force it on them. If necessary take the money from CVN 79 and CVN 80 but get these frigates built quickly.
