The president of the World's Bank has stated that the poor are looking at how others live and are comparing their living standards with their own. This is creating aspirations that cannot be achieved. Happines is not just what you have but how much you have compared to others too. The net is creating wealth for the poor but at too slow a rate to match their growing ambitions.
I have always thought this. Watching Dallas gives those who know no better a false idea of life in the West. Though even a true idea of life here can be frustrating for those with very little. It is also driving the immigration into the West, not only as an attraction but as a guide. Most illegal attempters prize their mobile phones for
showing them the best routes past barriers.
