A quick question here.
Let as say, for sake of argument (1), that it is decided to build a proper battleship with a 'big gun' armament for an IOC of around 2025.
The main guns will be the main offensive weapon system for most surface combat situations, whether against enemy warships or coastal targets.
Would it make sense to have laser guided rounds for these big guns? It would massively increase you chances of hitting the enemy, permitting a reduction in the number of guns to begin with?
The rounds would be more expensive as a result. But if you do not need to fire as many in order to hit the intended target, would you not save money overall?
Note.1 - as Mr Thomas Cromwell would say
