If it's technical specs then my choices are the following BB - KGV class CL - Belfast CA - Prinz Eugen DD - 4" L class Light CV - Zuihō class. They are the only Light carriers that I can think are in service before the summer of 1942. Subs - T class - due to their long service life.

I don't think there was another class of subs (excluding any other US class) that was better than them. Ask not the Elves for advice, for they will tell you both yes and no.

Posts: 439 Aug 12 11 1:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm agree with the choice of Yorktowns as best CV, also if they had not the largest aircraft facilities they had 3 lift and 3 catapults and a good fuel storage (the Shokakus also are good CV i take Yorktowns because are oldest). On the BB, i think there are small difference in capability within european fast BBs, the Japanese Yamato was ready only from february '42 and North Carolina only a couple of months before. so i take as best BB the Vittorio Venetos as the oldest fast BBs. a little comment on seasick list, as a QE can engage a fast BB? p.s i ommitted to european fast BBs the older and lighter Dunkerque, Gneseinau, Scharnhorst and Strasbourg Last Edited By: Vincenzo Aug 12 11 7:55 PM. CV: Enterprise BB: Littorio CL: Town Class CA: Zara DD: Tribal Class Light CV: Like Brazen, I'm saying Zuiho because I can't think of any other light carriers commissioned before 1943 Submarine: Gato class is hard to argue with overall, but they would have been way too big for the North Sea and Med, where something like the Type VII or RN's S class is far superior.

Posts: 3569 Aug 14 11 6:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't think Hipper fares well against most contemporaries because of it's unreliable power plant, poor endurance, and similar armament on a much larger ship. I suppose if you ignore the very large size, it looks ok except for the power plant. If you look at it from the point of view of what one can do on 17,000 tons, not so good. The post war photo of Prinz Eugen next to a similarly armed British cruiser pretty much says it all, I think.
