Yes, PE had two separate hydrophone systems. The more sophisticated one was the GHG (Grupenhorchgerate) which was intended to detect submarines. Both of these were passive systems. There was also an active system, the S Gerate which used a crystal-based transmitter housed in a dome under the keel.

The hydrophone GHG system on PE detected the British POW and Hood at approximately 20 nm distance just before the battle.
