Years ago as a small boy I had a knife given me by my father, and like a lot of the boys around my way, we'd go to the nearest bit scub (hardly worthy of the words forest or wood) and play about doing the usual boys stuff. Making spears, bows and arrows (none of which where very good) campsites etc...
Talking to people at work most of them had knives as boys too.
Yet now we have a hysteria over knives, driven by the media and a number of knife attacks in London where the media notice things.
Already the law has been changed and moves are afoot to change it yet more. To make carrying a knife a serious crime, especialy for teenagers and younger.
But all this worries me, since I can't help think that there must be a lot of kids, who are like I was. Just boys playing, not threatening anyone, who will if caught by the police or a PCSO be arrested, convicted and given a criminal record, for the crime of carrying a knife.
So question, did you carry a knife as a young boy?
BTW when I say the media notice this, its important to bear in mind that the knife crime capital of the UK is Glasgow, and has been since......well my father remembers it being called Razor City back in the 40's.
