The submarine features a double hull combined with fore and aft main ballast tanks. The sonar sphere requires torpedo tubes to be angled. The AIP plant is built around two 500 kilowatt PEM fuel cells for AIP cruise at five knots for 26 days. Two diesels drive generators which charge the Zebra type sodium nickel batteries. A sprint speed of 22 knots for an hour and range with schnorkel at 12 knots works out to over 5000nmi.
The lightweight version of the Wide Array Array and a towed sonar array is provided. Small nonreusable Sea Sentry UAV is carried in the sail. A special forces lockout chamber for four divers is carried. The reconfiguable torpedo room has stowage for 36 reloads of torpedoes or cruise missiles Tomahawk and Harpoon. The VLS carries 24 missiles. Fuel is diesel oil for the diesel engines and several hundred tons of liquid oxygen and hydrogen fuel for the PEM cells is carried. Automation reduces crew size to twenty-nine.
All this on a reasonable displacement. For those with higher math, the processes required to figure out the best optional and basic equipment, hullform, arrangements and pressure bulkheads are illustrated with their calculations which are way beyong me.
The document is untitled so you find it by doing a search for SSG submarine.
