Given that MARCOM is still a 1st rate navy in almost every sense of the word, it's be preposterous to pay off the underway replenishment assets without a replacement being at least under construction. Replenishment at sea is one of the key capabilities which turns an overgrown coast guard into a navy, and I've no doubt that the senior leadership of the CF is entirely aware of this, therefore maintaining an underway replenishment capability is an absolute must, and therefore I imagine the two AOR will keep going until JSS is ready to replace them. Floating the idea of retiring them early would simply have been an exercise in showing the absurdity of the concept to government ("we could retire the AOR now and save $X, but in the next 5-10 years we;d be unable to do A, B, an C, all of which we're regularly asked to do").

... There is, however, one potential curve ball in the equation: an interim solution. Ordinarily I'm opposed to interim solutions as they present a tasty alternative to a 'full solution' which short sighted and/or cash strapped governments are keen jump on, however underway replenishment is one of the very few exceptions. As HMAS Sirius shows, it's possible to convert a big-standard tanker into a semi-decent AO in a year at a cost of three-quarters of sod-all. Now, you get what you pay for (i.e. Sirius has big limitations), but they're useful platforms for operations, but at the same time their limitations pretty much preclude the notion of them being a permanent solution. So, in the CF's case, I wonder whether a Sirius type conversion might have utility? A single AO could take the place of one of the AOR, whilst the later type keeps both maintained but only one operational, thus reducing the manpower load and increasing the remaining lifespan of the AOR capability until JSS comes along. The trick would be to keep the cost of the AO down to the absolute bare minimum in order not to imping upon JSS's budget.
