Previously, an American convoy was intercepted by Indomitable and New Zealand, and what had been intended as a show of determination blew up into a battle. Indomitable now lies in little bits and pieces on the bottom, and New Zealand is in drydock. Other ships are either in a refit, now being hastily completed, or racing for home, but right now, only Lion, Tiger, and Indefatigable are available when the Germans sortie for what became the battle of Dogger Bank. The German OB is as historical.
The possibility of the US entering the war after the battle has been defused diplomaticaly, but for now, the British are having to let American ships trade freely with Europe, in strict accordance with The Hague 1907.
So, How would you think Beatty would fight Dogger Bank in this situation. Or would he? Indomitable blew up, and it's believed that it was a turret penetration from a 12" shell. New Zealand took a hammering, but got home. There's an insufficient sample of observed hits to know that the British are firing duds.
