HA, my ancestry takes me out of the Baron's chain of command. My allegiance is to my King, Franz Josef. I'm Hungarian so I get to call him King. Now
if jim manages to get the KuK fleet to sortie, I may be in trouble.

As long as Italy is sitting on the fence the KuK might be a bit more active, but also cautious since a major setback might nudge Italy of the fence. I dont
know if there are any real targets around that would justify sending the KuK battlefleet out into harms way, no big well defended convoys or bridgeheads that
needs to be isolated. If the Serbians retreat through Albania in LT as well as in RT then that would be a task for the KuK but appart from that...?

The KuK already botched one thing - they allowed the Italians to set themselves up at Valona. Now they should combione plan #2 with the capture of Durres/Durazzo, and carry out #1 from there. The KuK should not only attack the French blokade line, but sortie even further south. The need to provide escorts for shipping in the middle Med should get the Entente excited ... Borys |

Admiral Haus is never ever going to risk all of his main units unless Italy is definitely on the Triple Alliance side (again).
A quick strike to Corfu with the Erzherzogs, the ACs and the scout cruisers on the other hand, with the dreadnoughts and the Radetzkys as distant cover force might be an option if you want to think big. This sortie should happen during the attack on Montenegro and could transfer some units to Cattaro. |

Hello Wien,
I see we are advancing in the same and right direction. Your's is a plan. I'd did not wait too long with the doing. The tracks are still fresh. |

The most important KuK mission is to keep Entente warships out of the Adriatic. That way cargo arriving in Italy can be trans-shipped to Austria-Hungary
without difficulty. Neutral Italy will protect their own merchant shipping.

Maybe I underestimate the Med, but I don't think you'd have enough sea room to run away far enough to escape after an emergency call was transmitted. In addition, (as you say) I'm not sure the Helgolands (everything else is definitely unsuitable as a raider) have the range (couldn't find any data in my books).

IIRC, the Ersatz Monarch-dreadnoughts were not even started, just a few guns constructed and ceded to the army. The only 'large' vessels completed were
the remaining cruisers, otherwise ship construction focused on destroyers and submarines.
With no need to conscript additional soldiers for operations against Italy, the shipbuilding program might be reorganised and include some small cruisers or large destroyers for operations against the French blockade line. |

The mission calls for something similiar to the historical GTB1916. Just increase the endurance to 8,000 miles @ 14 kts. Max displacement will probably be close to 3,000 tons to accomodate the additional fuel oil. Squeeze a seaplane on the stern to assist with spotting merchant ships. |

Another option: China (!) has some cruisers (three about 2000 ts, one at ~ 5000ts) building at Montfalcone. The small ones should be armed with 4x 15 cm guns and have a light displacement of 1800 ts (no data about their speed). With a few modifications they'd make a valuable addition to the fleet and support the Helgolands in their blockade disruption duties. |
