I took the following from the RN site.
The first Naval Lynx helicopter to reach the end of its operational life has now been retired from active service. The aircraft, XZ257,
currently operated by 815 Naval Air Squadron, based at RNAS Yeovilton, has flown 8000 hours over 28 years. It was flown into storage on 28 February 2008 by
815 Squadron's Commanding Officer, Commander Alun Jones, and Lieutenant Jerry Tribe. This flight also marked Commander Jones, formerly a Sea King pilot,
reaching his one thousandth flying hour in a Lynx aircraft. It was also Lieutenant Tribe's last sortie in a Lynx aircraft having been in the Lynx
Helicopter Force for 19 years and achieving 3300 flying hours in a Lynx. XZ257 will now enter the aircraft donor programme in support of the Future Lynx
Project that is due to enter service in 2013.
Please oh please don't tell me we are saving some pennies by turning the 30 year old lynx's into new Lynx's like some bad magic trick.
I thought they would be new build but with the MOD this would hardly
surprise me.
Does anyone else think of anywhere else they could stick on a bit of plastic or and ariel it looks like it has bits growing out of everywhere!
What are the missiles on the racks of this picture its says it is
the naval variant?
