"geekgasm" LOL. Whilst at an airport abroad, I saw an A/C that looked Lancaster vintage. Single seat, I'm sure its an old Amercan training plane. Anyway, the piston engines sounded positively agricultural. I'm not sure if jet engines have improved the aesthetics of flying, they've definately improved the sound.

But they can be sooo much noisier. If an engine is going to be noisy then a good old piston growl is fine by me!

RJimFox, we modified our AP-3Cs to carry Harpoon on underwing hardpoints. Shouldn't be a problem for aircraft like Nimrods with low wing loadings.
"Ugly", well certainly not pretty but function has a beauty all of its own.

Both the MR.2 and MRA.4 are wired to carry Harpoons and Sidewinders on underwing pylons, though the MRA.4 has two additional ones. The MRA.4 can also, at least in theory, be armed with the Storm Shadow, though no work has been done to integrate it. The RAF did make some noise last year about turning the upgraded Nimrod into a Storm Shadow shooter. With four external missiles and possibly one, or two in the weapons bay the Nimrod would have a pretty good weapons load. |

Both about the noise and the geekgasm. Might have to wash your hands later. I was worried about watching that video on my other halfs computer; especially with the 'gasm' bit in it. But yes, very nice!

I just can't help feeling that the Nimrod is a very good aircraft but moments from falling apart. I guess it is its age. I read today that the Nimrod that was meant to be shown at enquiry into the crash over Afghan. was replaced by another one because of technical dificulties! How much of the original aircraft is in the new MRA4's, and would it be possible, or was it, at any time, possible, in the near past,, to reopen the production line.
