No, the result is consistent with modern ballistics, in fact slightly better than would be predicted. The primary caveat is that the US tried it against a
different iron target (in fact thicker) and penetrated, but the iron in question was of inferior quality and was unbacked. That was the "manufacturers
test" though, so had perhaps been deliberately skewed. Look at the link in the second post on this thread and you'll get an idea of the extremely
large numbers of tests done....
