TBO is formidably researched, and I have to say I do like reading it now and again. Despite this is reads a little like a childs story: "this happened then this then this then this then this then this then this" with little or no character development and in part plots that are as thin as the paper it is written on, seemingly only there to demonstrate knowledge of the capabilities of an aircraft or a weapons system. The author; who is clearly very knowledgeable, has also let some of his personal political beliefs impinge on the work which to me, reduces its quality in places. I am also suprised at the alliance between the USA and the USSR; there does seem to be a significant account of handwavium there; not only in removing the Communist Party from power but also presuming the stability of a diverse nation once that party is removed.
This being said, it is still a good work; much better in its research than the majority of alternate histories, (present company excepted)
Now back to TLW: I did like this chapter Jan; as said previously. Just a general question though; what did you do to the USSR to stop it collapsing?
I've also got an idea for the modernization of the Royal Observer Corps, but it does involve building new structures, so that may be out of the question (it would however give subbrit RSG chance to nose round the old ones
