I heard some very sad news today. David K Brown, the famous naval arctitect and author, passed away yesterday. I am sure that many, many readers of this board
are familiar with his work and will greatly mourn his passing.

That's very, very sad.
I saw him a couple of years ago and he was extremely frail even then. A great loss to naval history |

That is a great loss. His books are some of the best ones on my bookshelf.

Well, as others have said before me, a great loss. His name appears in quite a few places on my bookshelf too. Great books, even if they do require a lot of
concentration. Plus, my 2-and-a-bit year old loves the pictures, pointing to each one saying 'boat'. Mrs. 'pascaly' is worried I'll
'corrupt' her too. If so, we can blame DK Brown for that

Very sad news. His books have pride of place on my bookshelf alongside Friedman and Raven & Roberts.
There can't be so many people though who spend their life so productively; to excel first in their chosen career and then as a chronicler of that field. |

A great loss indeed. So few people with real inside knowledge are willing or able to explain it to outsiders in the way that he could.

His books are a great read. Accessable, enjoyable, informative- they make armchair experts of anyone who reads them (-:
"Rebuilding the RN" concludes with a very optimistic chapter about the future build program, a shame Mr Brown will never get to see the new carriers. |

Agreed, despite being a little pricey on ocasions, they are well worth it. Sadly, as has been observed on the BB Vs BB board, there does not seem to have been an obituary in any of the newspapers. Plus, my 2-and-a-bit year old loves the pictures, pointing to each one saying 'boat'. Now you'll just need to teach her to say 'King George V class battleship' and 'Type 45'.

JNiemczyk wrote: Trust me, I'm trying, the best she's got so far is 'big boat', which considering she was pointing to Vinnie, I thought was pretty good....I'll wait til she's three before I explain what could have been though lol. |
