As for the Tico's, last I heard (from an issue of Aegis Lifelines about a year ago), the modifications involve removing all steam operated equipment (laundry, some of the stuff in the galley and some engineering stuff) with all electric equipment, the entire CND system is being ripped out and Q-70 computers and consoles installed, all cruisers will also be upgraded to do BMD and CEC. |

I'm about to turn 27. Yes they are putting new consoles on the cruisers. I'm not sure what they are going to do with the Burkes, from what I've
read they are going to definitely going to rip out all the obsolete peripherals for Aegis (as in all the stuff I worked on) and replace it with newer vintage
equipment, but I don't think they are going to touch CIC.

Cruiser Modernization? It's starting to seem more like an extended yard period with a bunch of shipalts. Yes, Phalanx 1B is a step forward (but not as
good as RAM), and I'm sure the engineers will appreciate an all-electric ship. All US warships should have had all-electric auxiliaries a long time ago.
Steam is a pain in the a$$.

One problem the Navy is going to have to address is the effect the below minimum ship building rates has had on the shipyards. This seem to be especially true
of the gulf yards. MG has announces delays on LHD-8 because of problems (workmanship) with the ship's electrical systems. Like problem happen with LPD-17s
and some current destroyers. If we are going to all electric ship we are going to get people who can build them, and that mean building enough ship to keep
them employed full time.

Yes, Phalanx 1B is a step forward (but not as good as RAM). True, but the Ticonderogas will be fit with the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile RIM-162 [ESSM]. ESSM is highly agile and is controled by Aegis. The load out is 8 VLS cells (4 forward, 4 aft) with a four pack in each cell for a total of 32 missiles. All Aegis vessels will employ ESSM in place of RAM. RAM will be fitted to non-Aegis vessels such as amphibious vessels, aircraft-carriers. |
