If you had not fessed up to a case of the "block" i would have thought that this seemed maybe to be a set up for the next chapter. I don't think DeR will be very adventureous at all. if he gets a report of a semi successful light attack on the Germans he MIGHT keep his job. At least as long as it takes for British spies to report that the Gernams got most ships back to port and the batle was in fact a draw with the british lion running away. The Germans need to get their subs off of major british yards 9esp the building yards) and try to catch British DNs coming out for sea trials. Bag one or two that way will be as good as another fleet engagement

They have good rail connections for supply purposes. Cleaning the Russian Army out of Kurland (including Riga) would be an unnecessary diversion of resources and a good way to derail the attack on Sankt Petersburg. The Kurland pocket can be screened with Landwehr. Sending the HSF into the eastern Baltic is a good way to lose ships to Russian mines with nothing to show for it. Choking off the Port of Arkhangelsk is the single best way for the HSF to assist in the destruction of Russia right now (summer 1915). And that effort needs to be NOW as this is the peak shipping season for Northern Russia. During the summer and fall they ship more goods to Arkhangelsk then the connecting RR can handle. The cargo backlog is hauled away during the winter months when the Port of Arkhangelsk is closed.

It looks that disengagement is the order of the day right now. Is the mysterious officer on the Imperator the Baron? Back when I was doing Strange Bedfellows I made the point that the American fascination with Letters would be the size of the Shapley Supercluster. Even the Anglophiles though in a Darth Vader sort of way. A picture of him (though probably not of great quality) would be dredged up from somewhere (in addition to being a naval officer he's part of the royal family). So Fox should know what he looks like. One advantage that the Germans have by holding the field is that they get to fish any bodies and survivors out of the water. So the Germans with a minor amount of luck should have the names for the two KIA RN DNs. Michael

Probably the right thing for Necki to break off and look for what would presumably be the easy pickins of a left-behind member of the RN force. Even though we know St Vincent is on the bottom there is no way for him to know that yet, and Necki certainly wants to post 2 RN kills against the two HSF DN losses. With one cripple and three moderate-to-significantly damaged DNs on each side, the extra RN light losses tip the material victory to Germany, plus the strategic win of bringing the convoy home means that there should be all smiles in Wilhelmshaven when the Baron gets back.
