Will there be extra costs involved with leaving the type 45 production line and starting it up again at a later date?

With the steel being cut for the 6th Type 45 Destroyer i think we could see some interesting developments for the royal navy ship builders coming up. I imagine
that we will have an annoucement after April of whats getting built next. Those steel cutters will need something to cut once the steel for Duncan is finished.
Will it be CVF or maybe some tankers or the another 2 type 45's? I kind of hope the RN gets 2 more type 45's but maybe they could wait till after CVF
becuase then we could have improvements to make and maybe a couple of export orders and we could have 4 Type45's Batch 2. It can't take that long to
get the steel cut at the rate they are turing out those Type 45's just now.

I would hope the shipbuilders are putting some pressure on the gov to order something ASAP (preferrably 2 more t45s to tide them over until CVF starts) because
steelworkers don't maintain their skills standing around waiting for orders to materialise.

Yes it costs more to start up the line again later. It is far cheaper to knock out more of the same design now than to try to remember how it is done quickly
and adapt that to an altered batch 2. We should order another sub-batch of three while we are waiting for CVF to get underway. Those steel cutters will stand
idle (or find another trade) making any further Type45 and CVF more expensive. Since the government is commited to short-term savings rather than strategic
ship and submarine building capabilities we are all going down the tube. Things will get a lot worse before they get better. Building CVF will the last purely
british warship building project. It's all off the shelf after that.

Really? There's no sign of FSC going down that route. |

Naval Design Partnership. Could you elaborate on that please, it sounds interesting? |

I grabbed this from the North East Maritime Design Centre website (dated 19 Dec):
As the UK moves towards a single shipbuilding entity for warships and submarines, the Naval Design Partnership is being established by the MOD to retain the diversity and innovation that is crucial in our design work. The NDP will be the new vehicle for early stage design across future naval projects, including MARS, FSC and the successor submarine, and will be open across the entire supply chain to establish 'rainbow' project design teams. Adrian Cudmore, Ship Design Authority, Frigates IPT, who is on the team establishing the NDP, will update us on immediate and long term plans and tell us
how we can engage with the Naval Design Partnership.
