Hey guys I need some help here, I am looking for some information about the USS New Jersey's Vietnam war tour. I remember somewhere along the line that she was recommissioned for short time and was removed from active duty because she was a threat to the peace talk? Can anyone help me with this and are there any good books I read up on?

Thanks Gene but that not what I was looking for... I was looking for why she was decom so early, one of the reason i found out due to budget reason which i find a BS reason... they don't just spend all that money on recom a ship then take it right out, there got to be a reason. |

The US could have shut down Haiphong by mining the harbor, too, and the presence or absence of the New Jersey was completely irrelevant to that. Gene's
probably got the best answer, in that nobody who actually knows is telling.

In peace talks someone gives up something and preferably both sides.
I always wondered if the NV did not say well you have got to give up something. The US may have said well how about the NJ? |

The greatest value of the NJ in Vietnam was the 5 inch/38 guns. There were several episodes where the 5 inch guns put up a tremendous amount of fire against
the VC and NVA. The number of 5 inch shells fired is quite telling.
