Surplus T55's are a dime a dozen, no reason to Vismod a turret on one, and they certainly wouldn't Vismod the BDD armor or an accurately scaled 100mm barrel complete with fume extractor. Check again, what Soviet tank has twin AA machine guns (fake) on a DshKM mount? or a sleeved collar around the first third of the barrel to help prop up a drooping barrel. The barrel shroud is certainly not from a Soviet tank. Nor have I never seen a Soviet T-54/55 without hand rails running along the side of the turret. Nor a coaxial port so big and high up on a T-54/55 and why is it blocked? The Chasis is certainly a T-55, however the turret Mr. T is viewed from is neither a 54 or 55 it's much too small. How can this be a real Soviet Tank, since Mr Ts hatch opens to the left and thus interferes with the Gunners Hatch? B.

There is a good picture of the heavy machine-gun and mounting (in use) below. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ima...ing_MG.jpg Also doesnt the whole hatch rotate with the machine-gun mounting? When the close-up of Mr T is shot the mounting has probably been slewed out of the way to his right so the hatch opens to his left (but still opposite the machine-gun mounting). The hatch is also sprung-loaded to assist opening so it will move quite easily as the tank crushes the cars.

Posts: 1286 (23-May-2007 02:33:48) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The Yugo T-55 is mounting a DshK-38 or it's Yugo copy, (good picture), however freeze the frame at sec. 13, you will see a couple of supposed MGs mounted side by side. Actually, I think those are buffer springs from the AA mount to absorb the MGs recoil. That is not a DshK on the snickers mobile. I have never seen a traversing ring on a T-55 commanders cupola. But then all the T-55s I've seen were the export monkey models. Further check the Snicker turret. The base of a T-55 turret is flush with the Deck. However the Turret on the Snicker tank bowls up. Now that could be caused by applique armor, but then the turret would be significantly larger, whereas the Snickers Turret is proportionally smaller than any T-55 I've seen. Also look at the aft of the turret of the snickers mobile as it is exiting, it has an extended overhang, however a T-55s aft is rounded with no overhang. Perhaps someone added a storage rack? Lastly look at sec 22, the top of the tank is flat, not a T-55 characteristic, nor is the coaxial cavity found that high up on a T-55. It's normally found flush with the main gun and much smaller is size. The turret could possibly be an copied Warsaw Satellite export version of a T-55, but it's not consistent enough to be a real T-55 turret. B.

I predict they'll know exactly what we are looking at. On a side note, I'm rather pleased to have made the T-55 call, though I was basing that mainly on the WW II era looking hull, (I knew for certain it wasn't a T-34, so it had to be a later tank, meaning T-54/55) and the dome turret, though I was less certain about that, as most Sov tanks feature it.

I parked up next to it in a motorway service station a few months back (it was on a low loader and in convoy with loads of other FSU armoured vehicles, owned by a company that supports TV filming and commercial like this). One of the main distinguishing features (apart from wheel spacing) of the T-55 against the T-54 was the "shroud" on the 100mm gun.

Posts: 2821 ( 4-Jun-2007 13:35:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	You can always tella fake turret and gun on any 'tank' used in films; the gun tube wobbles in the verticle plane and the turret always 'looks' cardboard. As can be seen in the advert the gun tube stays remains completely montionless in relation to the hull. The tank is indeed a T-55 variant; unfortunately there have been that many companies both east and west offering upgrades to the tens of thousands of T-55s still extant that determining which variant it is can be a nightmare. That it still has the original 100mm gun is undeniable so my guess would be an eastern-european factory upgrade. Andy

Registered Member Posts: 1 (17-Mar-2008 18:04:37) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I watched the advert once, and instantly knew it was a T-55 AM2 Kladivo. ..and to you guys that are all contemplating its even a t-55, should you be on such a forum?... Lesson one with T-55/54 identification is the Wheel arrangment, 5 either side, and the front axle being further apart from the rest due to the T-55 gearbox. Apart from its general size, and profile, step two should be too look at the gun shroud.. The T-55 100mm gun has a Buldge at the end (although on the AM2 the gun has a thermal sleeve). Its good to note some warsaw pact countries changed the soviet 100mm gun to a British L7 105mm, being a huge improvment, countries like Tiran designating it Ti-67, and I think it was the syrians who put a centre buldge on their 100mm 55's To try make their enemy think they had the better L7 gun.
