I am wondering if any Western navy had ever contemplated an anti-nuclear submarine role for its conventional submarines.
The navies of the UK, Netherlands and Norway had diesel/electric submarines and their main operational areas were the Norwegian Sea, North Sea and GIUK gap AFAIK (not sure about the Barents Sea). My speculation is that the Norwegian navy's diesel/electric boats could have had a fair chance of meeting Russian nuclear ones.
So, did the Norwegian navy submarines practice operations against Russian nuclear submarines during the Cold War?
Thanks in advance,
Sunho
