No doubt about it - they earn their keep in the realm of Military Aid to the Civil Community.

Janes has it that BAE Systems' ARTISAN 3D radar will win the MRR contract to supply radars for the CVFs, HMS Ocean, the Albions, 13 T23s and 2 shore
facilities. The radar proposed by BAE Systems is derived from Sampson. Good to see the MoD supporting British industry in a field where it is cutting edge and
very capable. All other contenders were afaik foreign systems.
Another piece of news, HMS Cumberland has just finished a 20 million pound refit and is now part of the fleet again. |

Boeing receives Harpoon Block III upgrade contract
Boeing has been awarded a USD73.7 million system design and development (SDD) contract by the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to upgrade US Navy (USN) RGM-84D and AGM-84D Harpoon Block 1C anti-ship cruise-missile systems to an improved Harpoon Block III standard. Harpoon Block III enhances the precision of the existing Harpoon inventory in congested littoral environments first posted to http://idr.janes.com - 22 February 2008 |

http://www.meetyournavy.co.uk/ A new and bigger Navy Day? Anyone know if Daring might make a visit following her second set of Sea Trials? Would be fantastic to see her up close alongside, even if she isn't able to take visitors. |

600 people have signed a petition asking the MoD to clear the name of Admiral John Byng, who was executed in 1757 after he failed to hold Menorca against a
French fleet. They say that Admiral Byng had asked for reinforcements, but was not given them and as a result had to withdraw. Article here:link

RAF Reaper request rebuffed, says MoD source
A proposal by the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) to buy up to 10 additional General Atomics Aeronautics Systems MQ-9 Reaper armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) appears to have become a victim of the UK Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) budget squeeze. A senior MoD source told Jane's that the proposal, which could have cost up to USD1 billion, has "not survived the planning round 2008 [PR08] process" first posted to http://jdw.janes.com - 07 March 2008 |
