I have found these pictures at www.navalhistory.dk Being fitted out Alongside the patrol cutter it is going to replace At sea with it SAR boat deployed (CB90) Personally speakink I think it is a bit 'funny'-looking being short, broad and tall, but hopefully it will prove itself very sturdy and seaworhy. A second of this classs is fitted out, and thr RDN will most likely receive a third alter

She looks like a stealthier and smaller cousin of KV Svalbard. This is the class that will replace the Agdlek class, right? By the way, who was Knut Rasmussen?

Knud Rasmussen was a famous danish polar explorer. yes the classs will replace the old worn-out Agdlek class, It seems 3 will be acquired, but chances are that a fourth will be built. They are almost unarmed (carries two 12.7 mm machineguns) but they have 2 or 3 stanflex container positions

I see I accidentally Norwegianised his name. Yes, I found the Wikipedia article on him just after I made the last post. He seems like a person I should have known about. Has a name been decided on for the second unit of the class? Might Hans Egede be a candidate for such an honour? yes the classs will replace the old worn-out Agdlek class, It seems 3 will be acquired, but chances are that a fourth will be built. That is good news. Will they be based in Greenland? They are almost unarmed (carries two 12.7 mm machineguns) but they have 2 or 3 stanflex container positions But, the old illustrations show a main gun...?

Posts: 271 (24-Feb-2008 19:18:17) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Yes it is prepared for a heavier armament (stanflex container with 76 mm on forecastle), but it doesn't really need a heavy armament as its primary role will be SAR and fishery inspection duties i Greenland. Old drawings (see http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v252/hvidtfeldt/Stanflex%20OPV/) show that it can configured for several missions. But I doibt it will ever be relevant. I have also read somewhere that the OPV have only 2 container positons one at the forecastle and another immidiately aft of the superstructure, probably to used with a crane module). Overall it is a vast improvement over the Agdlek class but not a 'proper' corvette

The new OPV's are slow (approx 17 knots) and almost unarmed, and they are built to civilian standards for patrol,SAR and fishery ionspection duties, not as a dedicated warship. They same applies to the Thetis class frigates, they are not fighting ships but large capable OPV's.

The Diana class are referred to as MK2 STANDARD VESSELS. Do they have any stanflex capability? They seem to have a stern launched inspection boat. They have a range of 1000nm and given the RDNs area of responsibility, they are probably quite seaworthy and at least minimally ice strengthened. Does anyone have any firm info on their specifics? With slightly uprated engines and a 30mm gun they would seem to be an excellent replacement for the USCG 110's.
