So Necki has found the GF and knows it. He has sent his report and made the preliminary maneuvers. We can still see his anxiety and desire to discern certainty in the misty fog, or swirling smoke, of war. His repeated questions to the Baron's aide and to his own lookouts bring that home well. He wants to know, not guess. He's stuck with some guessing.

In the last segment, he sets the course across the stego's tail and releases the leading dreadnaughts to open fire. The course appears to be converging, at least for a while, to bring his DNs in range. They aren't there yet, and the QEs have range advantage. One point obscured by the smoke is that the stego's tail is made up of 15" QEs. He's committed to some action by issuing this order. We readers can now be sure his mission is not just to stalk or appear to pursue.

This stego's tail is quicker and more maneuverable than the body of the beast. The tail can swing around the body to cover a lot of bearing angles without going faster than Warspite's reduced top speed. DeR can easily stay interposed between his cripples and Necki.

The author's replies bring up the possibility of QE in an independent pursuit of Necki. Would Necki really mind? Can you say N-squared? QE alone against two German DNs, even if accompanied by Agincourt or Bellerophon, is a bad match. The old or weak DN would have trouble with all three BCs. Necki wouldn't want to leave the QE's range advantage unchallanged. He's been shown to be aggressive enough to go after an isolated DN.

Dahm has been shown to have the guts to stick with the rescue efforts and now he takes his cruiser into the debris field. Medal or court martial? My bet is on medal and promotion.

We see threads of action around the Baron on Moltke, Rostock and Kolberg that seem disjoint at first. They're overlapping and the threads need to be told in a few segments for easy reading. Again, jim, you have inserted a point of reference that aligns them in time-- the course/speed signal from Ostfriesland. It works.

Hanzik and von Hoban were shown wishing they didn't have to play nice on several occasions--Vulcan techies on Moltke, dealing with US admirals and on French soil. Now the Baron has a similar problem with Fox. Ballin is persuading him to play nice, but he'd rather not. Baron Letters has accepted the idea well enough that it seems negotiation isn't foreign to him.

I don't think 5 minutes is the right interval between episodes, jim, but the fewer Tuesdays that come between them, the better.
