The Japanese Long Lance had a reputation for exploding under fire. This could be taken as a confirmation of US doctrine but the US dropped cruiser torpedoes well before WW2.
Does anyone know of any other nations cruisers that had their torpedoes explode? The RN were still keen to fit them on post war cruisers so they do not seem to have any doubts.
The US torpedoes were not very good until well into the war, so could it be that in this case the risk seemed to outweigh the benefits.
