Show lots of interesting details:
- upper hull of Kutznetsov looks as if it was painted before the trip - lower hull certainly was not - those Flankers are HUGE beasts - russian Radar must be really good to see through that smoke - russian life rafts must be very small - or somebody was a bit paranoid etc.. |

Actually, PK, I expect the entire hull was painted before she set sail... ships normally look like that after a
thousand miles or so of sailing through open ocean, as the water wears away the paint, and rust sets in.
On my trips across the Pacific on the Ranger, the lower hull and bow area always had lots of lost paint and rust by the time we got to Korea/Japan or Singapore... and lots more by the time we got back to San Diego. |

Does anyone know what the other aircraft type (i.e. not the Flanker) that's visible? Initially I thought it might be an Su-25 Frogfoot, but it looks more
like some sort of trainer.

she looks pretty good for coming from the Arctic to the Med and now on the way back.
I think the other aircraft is an Su-25. |

interesting to see the flight deck completely void of aircraft and rotorcraft...
that means that all current complement can be put in the hangar. AFAIK it was the GB policy with carriers until 1941... I wonder what happens when a USN carrier has to operate in such high latitudes...Are they going to routinely loose some airplane overboard??? :-) |
