It's a German Type 212. Currently in service with the German and Italian navies, conventional submarine with fuel-cell AIP. 56m long, 1850t submerged, 20
knots submerged, 6 torpedo tubes capable of launching either torpedos or IDAS short-range anti-air missiles (launched directly from a 4-shot revolver magazine
in the tube).
Recognition- there are only a few classes with the X-fin, and looking at images of all of them only the 212 has that shape sail (slanted at the front). |

I'd guess a RAN Collins-class for these reasons:
X-shaped fin narrows it a lot. The Asian writing makes me think it's RAN, as the only other countries operating X-fin submarines are in Europe. The sail shape looks right. The numbers near the bow, and the indentations on the sides, are there in the Collins pictures I've seen. |

The writing is Japanese, but both of the current JMSDF submarine classes have fins shaped like this: +. The one in the pic has fins shaped like this: X
On second thoughts, it is probably the JDS Soryu (first in a new class). The Soryu-class have some Swedish technology (Stirling-Kockums AIP) so why not Swedish-style fins- and the Soryu is still fitting out, so is much more likely to be in a Japanese yard than a visiting Collins! |

Pred: Come to think about it, the boat at the top may be an SMX-23- I didn't know about that class before your post, and an SMX-23 is more likely to be at
a trade show (where I assume the model is).
I'm also extremely impressed that you managed to recognise the 90B with so much of it obscured (diving planes hidden, top of sail and propeller/fins out of shot) |
