It's not a defence review - they haven't sorted the budget out. A review suggests they have time to decide where to go, whereas this seems to be a case
of late haggling as to what the money should go on.
And no, this isn't a time to panic because no one here is going to influence anything. It's a time to wait and see what happens. |

Given the potential £24 billion (absolutely worst case) black hole that has suddenly appeared the UKs budget due to the Northern Rock government guaranteed
lifeline, I'm sure all deparments have been told to revise expenditures. I'm expecting that the Defence Industrial Strategy may have gone out the
window as the defined allocated funds for planned procurement in harmony with industry have been unallocated.
Proper planning prevents piss poor performance - something that this government has not done in anything defence related. Stan |

While that money is ours as tax payers, its not part of the governments account - like defence or NHS.

Other departments have been told to cut back, and this is post CSR - DEFRA and HMPS to my certain knowledge. With all things green at the top of the list and
with all prisons full and overflowing, what's going to happen to Defence, even though the welfare of solders is in the public mind?

It's post CSR because they are now matching their medium term financial plans to the funding they received. Plenty got a cut in real terms, or will need to
make efficiency savings to pay for new stuff.

Things seem to go from bad to worse with this government. We must keep the pressure up on all fronts.

The aim of diplomacy is to achieve results, not win arguments
