Sometime back the board discussed the XM25 CDTE weapon, and it's hype. At least the threads I can find, nobody really knew what weight the 25mm rounds were, but the assumption was that the 25mm round was ~half the weight of a 40mm grenade.
This article suggests that the 14lb weapon plus 36 rounds would weigh 35 pounds. Or about 0.55lb per round. A 40x46mm grenade weighs ~0.5 lb depending on the exact round.
That would suggest that the XM25's 25x40mm rounds are roughly the same weight, and likely the same terminal effectiveness as the 40x46mm grenades. The 25mm round however would deliver greater muzzle velocity, and superior ballistics. I assume with the greater muzzle velocity for the same weight, it delivers significantly greater recoil forces.
With the 25x40mm round being more directly comparable to the 40mm round, does that change the discussion at all?
