also has a series of 8 shots (the 2 from above and 6 others). A very cool looking ship. Too bad the cost over runs will kill the program. The good news is these 2 ships can do all the South America narco ops and free up the more capable DDGs and FFGs to deploy west with a CSG. |

I think more to do with the Navy changing requirements and specs AFTER the ship was laid down that then required redesign, ripout of already completed
sections, then building to the new spec.
The whole program was a part of the 2001 3-mix fleet (CGX, DDX/DD1000, and LCS), but could be viewed as an outgrowth of the Cebrowski 'Street fighter' concept. In 2003 Rummy tasked the navy in his transformation program, and the Navy put forth the evolving LCS concept, although in fairness it was Rumsfeld who put Cebrowski in charge of the newly created Office for Force Transformation that then reccomended what was his pet project. |
