I live in Central Florida, and I have been to MacDill AFB, home of US CentCom. The airbase sits on a peninsula of land in Tampa Bay, surrounded on three sides from water within the bay. A commando assault from sea then, seems like a likely danger to me. But not by submarine, since the depth of the bay and the water from the bay out to the gulf only averages about 45 feet deep for the main channel, and 13 feet deep for the bay.
But, and I say but...
Central Florida also has to contend with the issue of illegal immigration. Now, let's say that one or more of the Port Authorities in Tampa are either bought off, or (I've probably been reading too many TC novels) meet with convinent accidents and their replacements bought off. The smugglers proceed to bring in two loads of one hundred immigrants each as test runs.
The third load brought in though is a strike team of one hundred Spetznaz standard trained commandoes. The commandoes are stashed under the decks, along with their Zodiac inflatible boats. Upon steaming near Macdill AFB, the commandoes enter into their boats, and proceed to raft afshore the AFB and commence their assault, with the primary goal of eliminating the personnel comprising US Cent Com. Secondary objectives would be the elimination of Key base personnel, elimination of US Socom personnel, and destruction of aeriel re-fueling assets on base.
This is just one scenario for attack that I've thought up, and is one of a hundred possible scenarios for attack, but my question is, how well equipped for defense is MacDill against this style of attack?
