General question about these smaller-calibre guns which may or may not bear implication on UK procurement for the RN's future vessels...
Several on the market; the USN are using Mk110 57mm for their new Zumwalt class 'destroyers', the OTO Melara 76mm is in widespread use in many navies as a dual-use anti-ship and anti-air system, SeaRAM seems to be the choice of arms for some USN and German Navy vessels, we're still using Phalanx on ours and quad-packed CAAM may offer some point-defence system in the future.
How do these systems size up against each other in providing CIWS as well as anti-ship capability? Which direction will the RN move towards as we start to replace the escorts?
Cheers
