The 'Alaska Highway' is an extension of the flightdeck outboard of the island to starboard, originally for the purpose of moving deck tractors fore and
aft without interfering with flight ops. It got it's name because of the weather conditions usually encountered in the North Atlantic made travel along
it's length somewhat precarious. The Vikramaditya design has included an Alaska Highway from the start, and some illustrations suggest it may be wide
enough for aircraft to be moved as well as deck tractors. In a purpose built design it would not have been necessary to do this but this is a conversion.
CVA-01 was designed with a large Alaske highway to allow aircraft movements outboard of the island to service her staboard catapult, so that launch and
recovery ops could procede simltaneously. On a carrier, you can never have too much flight deck space.

They're certainly doing a lot of cutting and pasting - she's having some sort of nose job to create a ski jump, but from the pics posted on this board
it looks as if it's simply (???) plating over the existing bow structure and would fall off in the first big wave she plows into.

Looks like the plan does include an Alaskan Highway, but I think it looks like it will be used more vehicle transfers as per the old Ark Royal rather than
transferring aircraft as it looks to narrow on the attached images.

I disagree, it looks different on that side to the diagram you've linked to or the model.
It looks wider and wider for the full length of the island too. |

If the model is accurate then aircraft movements will be possible. Not only does the extension provide more deck space, it also increases internal volume
noticeably too. More space for crew accomodation usually, along with ready rooms and the like. Most British postwar CVs recieved extensions along these lines
too.

Looks like enough room to move a MiG-29, especially with it's wing tips folded.
Also, look north to the next pier; Typhoon? |

What counts for such movement is yes partly the folded width and partly the width of the main gear of the aircraft, which is narrower than the folded width of
the aircraft. Depending on how this alteration progresses it could indeed be a full alaskan taxiway, with implications for the way the ship operates.

Yep, it is a Typhoon. There's also a Kirov battlecruiser off to the left.
