Are the only considerations against using a much larger caliber (say 76mm) the lower rate of fire and ammunition capacity? The South African Rooikat armored
car is reputed to be a quite dangerous opponent because of the lethality of it's cannon, and the BMP-3 has a 100mm cannon firing HE and ATGMs at people.

Bigger calibres are possible in armoured cars like the Rooikat, but most LAFVs carry a section of soldiers as well. Big guns need a bigger turret, which uses
up more interior space, and the ammo uses up more still.

Ahoj!
The 100mm gun of the MBP-3 is a low-velocity job. For firing HE at people and rela estate. It is co-axial to a 30mm gun, which is used for firing at harder skin targets. Borys |
