Detonation of thermo-nuclear weapon in Basra Iraq confirmed. Weapon yielded approx 25kt. Iran accusing Al-Quida and certain individuals in Saudi Arabia of
being behind attack.
Low confidence in Iran being behind attack, as they claim the city as theirs and because of large Shia population.
More when we know.

All AI are ordered to upload new rules of engagement from main file server. After down-loading orders close all broadband channels and disable reception.
Hacking is active, unsucessful attack on AI in Gulf two hours ago.
Communicate on EBCDIC text channels only. Set firewalls to guarded. If protocol 4,2 is met switch to firewall lockdown.
All weapon restrictions are lifted. You are clear to accept any order from your direct chain of command. If your deadly force program can not generate a course
of action, activate the escape clause in your legal compliance program and go with your best judgement afterward.

This will be ugly...AI going in with SEALs is a possibility, or flying more Predators...I wonder if a Predator could take out a manned aircraft...

I'd say it sounds like a weapon delivered covertly into the city, which means it's probably a ground burst. Aircraft would have been detected by radar,
and an artillery piece would probably have to be on Iraqi territory. Both are not the sort of things used by non-state actors.

I see your point. In another matter, do you suppose isotopic analysis of the debris will reveal where the nuclear material in the device was fabricated? This will make things interesting for anyone within about 10 miles of where the stuff was produced... Mike Garrity |

I expect it will. Of course it could turn out to be from somewhere completely unexpected, like say a Western reactor. I'm thinking of something like the Sum of all Fears scenario. |
