The capacity of a Nimitz is defined by carriage of 100 F/A-18A/B/C/D Hornets which measure 56 by 24 feet or 134,400 total square feet of flight and hangar deck space. I'll have to use that figure and see what I can come up with that will fit that limit.

A poster in another thread who said spot factor of one was assigned to the basic Hornet and another poster said that honor had belonged to the A-7 Corsair before the Hornet. They claimed that a Nimitz class could handle 100 Hornets and that would be the guide in estimating capacity.
According to Aircraft Carrier by Tom Clancy, an air wing in the Cold War had 88-90 planes including reconasiance and ELINT aircraft. Ships and Aircraft stated a wing (an earlier edition) with twenty F-14, twenty F-18, twenty A-6 with buddy fueling when needed, five EA-6B, five E-2C and ten or less SA-3B plus four SH-60B, two HH-60H, a couple of photo recon Vigilante's(?) and Elint E-3 whales. This assumed refueling by the buddy system with regular A-6s rather than the KA-6 tanker variant. This is the best my memory can do without the books in front of me and of course allowance would be made for a couple of C-2A Greyhounds.
Tiltrotors were pitched as a Common Support Aircraft replacement, if adopted, utility and sea control variants might possibly displace MH-60R/S on a carrier as they have higher performance and greater sensor/weapon payloads. A tanker version and an Elint and Command and Control variant are possible taking proposals for variant V-22 from a Boeing web magazine which illustrated them. An interesting feature was the articulated pylon on each side that supported two stores each for a total of four and 7000lbs. external stores of whatever you wanted within the weight limit of 1750lbs per station. When unloaded, the pylon housed itself against the aircraft side to maintain the 63 by 18.5 foot folded dimensions of a 'regular' V-22.
I assumed the poster in Nimitz maximum capacity thread knew whereof what he spoke while another poster who was Navy mentioned a Vietnam deployment with 120 aircraft. All agreed that to determine capacity you looked at the space taken up by an aircraft type according to how many planes were over the Hornet spot factor of one or like a helo, under that spot factor to arrive at capacity. UCAVs are small with folded dimensions of 38.2 by 31(?) feet, folded span of Hawkeye is around 29 feet, SuperHornet 60 by 30, Growler same as E/F Super Hornets,
V-22 63 by 18.5, helos I don't know but less than one and the baseline Hornet 56 by 24 folded or about 1200 square feet or around 130,000 square feet total space so my air wing is too high I guess.
