This is fully taking advantage of hindsight, but how would you go about designing a high speed transport capable of landing infantry, vehicles, or supplies
(but mainly the former and latter), in hostile territory (specifically, I'm looking for a purpose built vessel to serve in the Solomon campaigns in 1942)
during the night time?
To be more specific, the ships need to be capable of 30 knots, with a minimum range of 12,500 nm at 18 knots. Armament should consist of a single 3.9" DP gun in a shielded deck mount, with two twin 25mm AA. Armor should protect against splinters. The remaining displacement and facilites should be allocated to carrying capacity. No more than 10,000 tons standard per a transport.
