Might not be much of a news story, sounds to me a bit more like some local councillors deciding to go to one of those old "go to" topics to make it
look like they're caring for their constituents.

As a local I'm not exactly worried about this 'story'. A small hole causes the boat to list slightly, it's immediately plugged and there was no
danger to anybody.
The really dangerous bits, the reactor cores, were taken out a long time ago (by rail as it happens) and I presume the MoD is waiting for the residual radioactivity in the reactor compartments to decay down to a level where the subs can be scrapped. Someone should tell that SNP councilor that there are old nuke boats stored down south as well. I wonder what he suggests doing with old nuclear submarines once they are decommissioned? |
