Gents - this weekend I was reviewing 2 books I got back in the 80s and
hadn't looked at in awhile. The Mediterranean Naval Situation, 1908-1914 and Naval War in the Mediterranean
1914-1918, both by Paul G. Halpern. While looking through them, I had this impression that I had seen this format elsewhere - Massie's books.
One volume explaining the events that helped create these fleets and personnel and a second covering the how those fleets and people performed during the Great
War. Since Halpern books were published before Massie's, I was wondering if they, and how they covered the events, influenced the later. Anyone know? While
I find Massie's works more readable, Halpern's seem more…scholarly?...is that the word I'm looking for? Anyway, anyone else notice a similarity? As
always - thanks for the inputs…
