Did anyone catch this show? The reason I ask is that I swear they said the Northampton class CA were packing 6 torpedo tubes! Did I hear this correctly?
While the CGI was good and the interviews were interesting (who new the founder of Enterprise Rent A Car served on the Big - E) the stuff the history channel
narrator says sounds like it comes from Wiki.

Not at all unusual for History Channel programs to get specifics wrong. CGI was decent, although they employed a lot of panning and zooming to hide detail
inaccuracies (the less you can focus on at length, the fewer errors you initially catch), and as far as I know, Enterprise never went into any major
battles wearing mahogany stain and her pre-war "EN" markings.
Of far greater enjoyment were the crew interviews, limited interruptions, and the overall fact that this fine ship at least gets some long-overdue public attention--even if it is basically a high-tech cartoon. I thought the Enterprise Rent-a-Car exec was a nice touch, too--raising my opinion of that company, considerably! |

They did indeed say that 'Hamp carried six torpedoes... hmm.
I thought the show was long on gee whiz flash and CGI pyrotechnics- perhaps designed by and for the video game generation. I would have preferred fewer quick cuts, and a little more historical context- but then I'm an old geezer. The Enterprise rent-a-car company is based in St Louis- while I was living there we used them quite a bit, but this is the first time I learned that the boss had been on the Big E- I'll definitely try and rent from them more should the occasion arise... charley aka Desert Sailor |

Desert Sailor wrote: There was an article on the show and the Enterprise Boss in the NYT yesterday. Big photo of him and some other pilots posing in front of Hellcats alleged
to be sitting on Enterprise. Regretably, they were not; probably taken at one of the many shore training sites of the time.

I've been told that the Wikipedia article for Northampton mentions the original six torpedo tubes and four-gun secondary battery, but not the subsequent
alteration.
