Hi,
I recall a striking image of a battle damaged US CV returning to NY for repairs from the Pacific war. Does anyone know which CV it was, have the picture and know a bit of history about the event? Thanks to anyone who can help! Hula |

She never was reativated after WW2 was she?

She was fully repaired, but the repairs weren't completed till after the war was over. She was mothballed at Bayonne, NJ and was said to be in the best
condition of all of the Essex's (due to being mothballed immediately after a nearly complete rebuild) and was supposedly intended to receive the
"ultimate" modernization (SCB-125+SCB27C+who knows)" of an Essex. However, by the time it was her turn, the Forrestal's were coming online
and doing the "ultimate modernization" wasn't seen as worth it. Therefore she and the Bunker Hill were quickly demoted. Part of the
Franklin's bow was later removed to repair one of her sisters, but she remained mothballed and spare parts for her sisters until the late 60's when she
was sold for scrapping.
