Getting rid of Ming Campbell does not seem to have done them any good anyway.

If Labour does not shape up it can still lose the next General Election, and it does seem to be a case that governments lose elections rather than Oppositions winning them.

Only '68 was worse in recent times, but in each major loss of a ruling party during council elections of this sort, they loose the general election a few years afterwards. So this does look bleak for Labour.

Questions now are can the Tories step up another level to 'win' the next general election, and will the Lib Dems gain the strong leadership they need to translate votes into MPs.

AS for that center of vice, virtue, sanctimony and sin, that cancerous growth...

I know people vote differently in General Elections, but it means that Labour look set to be defeated next time around.

They have a lot of work to do if they want to stay in power next time round. Having a healthy opposition again is a good thing.

Do you think that Boris would have introduced something like the Oyster Card?

Indeed. That shows that Londoners are tired of Ken's socialism. It was not just a protest vote but indicative of a desire to have a more right of centre administration.

Boris might be a comedian but he has a sound instinct for the big ideas. In terms of soundbite politics, he is a loose canon.

Also lets not forget that this was not all about London....

What a short memory, I remember Red Ken back in the days of Thatcher, and he's always been a grandstanding go it alone type who thinks he knows best.

These elections are highly skewed, London, Wales and a few councils in England, its not going to be that accurate to project results on a General Election across the country as a...

How this influences national elections depends on whether Boris hideously screws up London or not. If he does, then the tories may not win- otherwise, they almost certainly will.

It looks as if Boris may have done it. What a relief! Red Ken has been around as Mayor of London for as long as I can remember. He has run London as if it were a State within a State. He is Britain's answer to Hugo Chavez.

Labour have done badly. Good, they deserved it. I'm not so sure that the Tories deserved their victory though? It seems that the way British politics has gone for most of the past 60 years or more and on into the foreseeable future is more of the...
